The Art

In the context of the story, each idea plays its own role and takes on a corresponding render style.  The render style often reinforces the cultural background of the idea through display media such as mosaic tiles, ink line lithographs, chalkboards, CRT's, and blueprints.

To insure cohesiveness among the individual scenes, many visual elements repeat to reinforce connections between ideas.  For instance,  a pair of triangulated characters appear when we learn of Plato's concept of a triangulated world.  These characters appear again when we encounter numerics, a contemporary study that considers the world to be triangulated.  This allows the viewer to visually draw that connection without overburdening the narration.

The culminating sequence of Mesh offered the most challenging render style to develop.  This final sequence, describing the mechanics of bubbles, needed to be climactic, yet the visuals demanded a long amount of screen time devoted to simple, round shapes. The solution was to capitalize on the beauty of soap films.  The resulting bubble surfaces are a mix of iridescent swirls, crystalline edges, and graphic reflections.  Not only is it visually rich, but it reiterates the dichotomy of simplicity and complexity in the structure of bubble surfaces.
